# Grief Doesn’t Follow a Schedule
Learning to Be Gentle With Yourself on the Hard Days
Grief is strange.
Some mornings it whispers.
Other days it walks into the room before your feet even hit the floor.
You can be laughing one moment and suddenly find yourself in tears because of a song, a scent, an old photograph, or a memory that arrived without warning.
If you’ve experienced that, you’re not doing grief “wrong.”
That’s simply how love continues to exist.
Grief Looks Different Than We Expect
When we hear the word grief, we often think of losing someone we love.
But grief can also come from:
the end of a relationship
moving away from a place that felt like home
watching children grow up
a job that ended
a dream that didn’t unfold the way you hoped
changes in your health
becoming someone different than you imagined
Grief isn’t only about death.
It’s about change.
It’s about love having nowhere obvious to go.
There Is No Right Timeline
One of the hardest parts of grief is the pressure people sometimes place on themselves.
“I should be over this by now.”
“I should be stronger.”
“I should be moving on.”
But grief doesn’t work on a calendar.
Some anniversaries feel surprisingly peaceful.
Ordinary Tuesdays can feel impossibly heavy.
Healing rarely moves in a straight line.
It circles.
It revisits.
It softens.
And little by little, it changes shape.
What Healing Can Look Like
Healing doesn’t mean forgetting.
It doesn’t mean pretending nothing happened.
Sometimes healing looks like:
getting out of bed
taking a walk
making a favorite recipe
lighting a candle
looking through old photos with a smile instead of only tears
writing a letter you’ll never send
allowing yourself to feel both sadness and gratitude on the same day
Those things matter.
More than you realize.
A Gentle Reset for Today
If today feels heavy, don’t ask yourself:
“How do I stop feeling this?”
Instead ask:
“What would help me feel cared for today?”
Maybe that’s:
a quiet cup of tea
a phone call with someone you trust
sitting outside for a few minutes
writing in your journal
resting without guilt
You don’t have to earn gentleness.
You deserve it simply because you’re human.
Journal Prompt For This Week
“What memory, lesson, or piece of love do I want to carry forward?”
You don’t have to answer perfectly.
Simply write whatever comes.
Sometimes the page holds what our hearts cannot say out loud.
Before You Go…
If today is one of the difficult days, I hope you remember this:
Grief is not a sign that you’re failing.
It’s a sign that something mattered.
That someone mattered.
That love mattered.
Take today one breath, one page, and one small step at a time.
The Reset Pages will be here whenever you’re ready to begin again.
